Photographer/Artist Joseph Kohl

Joseph Kohl was a Photojournalist and Fine Art Photographer for over 15 years. Kohl’s images have appeared in publications in Europe and the United States. Mr. Kohl’s photographs have been published in all the major newspapers in the Baltimore area, the major wire services as well as the magazines "Easy Rider". Joe is a well-recognized fine art photographer. He holds a degree in Fine Art from UMBC with additional studies at Maryland Institute College of Art.

In July 2001 Joe became gravely ill with Leukemia and was hospitalized. During the course of treatment for leukemia Joe lapsed into a comma losing most of his critical body functions, i.e. kidney, respiration, and cognitive activity. He remained in this comma for about 7 months. Doctors gave no hope of his recovering. On 20 February 2002 it became painfully clear that extraordinary efforts to prolong the body that used to belong to Joseph was not helping and in fact extending his suffering. Accordingly all such efforts were ended. Our Joseph passed away 1145 hrs Tuesday the 5th of March 2002 at Levindale Nursing Home/Hospital, in Baltimore. Joe's family, friends, colleagues and I are terribly sad and miss him very very much. This world has lost a good man, friend, son, brother, uncle, artist and a passionate and uncompromising photojournalist.
